Help Context Tool
Return to Introduction
The help context tool lets you assign, delete, import and export help context numbers.
The first page of this dialog offers four - different and independent - tasks:

·Delete Help Context Numbers from this project

Deletes all or a range of help context numbers. This function may be used to re-assign help context numbers completely. For instance, before you import a help context map file.

·Assign new Context Numbers to topics

Creates help context numbers for existing topics. If you forgot to enable automatic help context numbering (this is a setting in Projects|Properties) you can use this function to assign context numbers to existing topics.

·Import a so-called Help Context Map file

A Help Context Map is a text file that contains pairs of alphanumeric topic IDs and help context numbers. Software development tools like Visual Studio can create such a map file. Reasons to import the map file in Help & Manual could be that you get such a file from the software developer and have to assign a given list of context numbers to existing topics.

·Export Help Context Numbers

This function creates a so-called help context map file - a plain text file with pairs of alphanumeric topic IDs and help context numbers. Such a list may be used by a software developer to update help context numbers in the application the help file is for. If you need a report with more information about the topics, please use the Project Report instead, which also reports help context numbers.
